air interception

air interception
The process by which a friendly aircraft is directed to make visual or electronic contact with another aircraft. An aircraft is generally guided in this process by ground-based radar(s). However, this guidance also may be given by an airborne aircraft or by broadcast control. See air-intercept zone.
